Mental health is a safety issue, a workforce issue, and an industry issue, and it’s a conversation the construction community needs to keep having.

Join NUCA of Colorado for our September Virtual Roundtable featuring Richard “Rich” Jones, Founder & CEO of BuildWell Health, for an open and practical discussion about mental health and behavioral health in the construction industry.

Construction professionals face unique pressures from demanding schedules and physical strain to stress, burnout, substance use, and the long-standing culture of simply “toughing it out.” This roundtable will look at how companies can move beyond simply acknowledging these challenges and begin building workplaces where employees are better equipped to recognize when someone is struggling, start meaningful conversations, and connect people with effective support.

Rich brings more than 25 years of experience in behavioral health and is a nationally recognized advocate for improving how the construction industry approaches mental health, substance use, recovery, and peer support.

    We’ll discuss topics including:

    • Mental health and behavioral health challenges facing the construction workforce
    • Breaking down stigma and creating a culture where asking for help is supported
    • Recognizing when a coworker or employee may be struggling
    • The role of supervisors, leadership, and peer support
    • Practical ways companies can strengthen mental health resources and workplace culture
    • How mental health fits into the broader conversation about jobsite safety

This is intended to be an interactive roundtable, so attendees are encouraged to bring questions, share experiences, and participate in the conversation.

Mental health belongs in the safety conversation. Join us as we continue working toward a safer, stronger, and more supportive construction industry.

    Who Should Attend:
Safety professionals, operations leaders, project managers, foremen, HR representatives, and anyone involved in hiring and training new employees.

Come ready to share your insights, ask questions, and learn from peers across the industry. These roundtables are designed to be collaborative, practical, and directly relevant to your day-to-day operations.

Open to NUCA of Colorado members and invited guests.
Bring your questions, your experiences, and your best ideas. This is a working conversation for people who live this every day.

Registration: Complimentary for NUCA of Colorado members; Non-members welcome to attend as guests – come see the value of being part of NUCA!

Job Site Safety: Protecting Your People, Equipment & the Public

Thursday, September 24, 2026 | Colorado Springs, CO

Job site safety goes far beyond hard hats and PPE. Today’s utility construction crews are managing a wide range of risks—from protecting employees and the traveling public to securing valuable equipment and navigating unexpected challenges around active job sites.

Join NUCA of Colorado for a Lunch & Learn in Colorado Springs featuring a panel discussion with three industry experts who bring different perspectives on keeping construction sites safe, secure, and productive.

    Featured Panelists

    • Ben Seibert | Tenna — Equipment safety, security & theft prevention
    • Rusty Burdette | AWP Safety — Work zone & public safety
    • JD Graham | Zedcor — Job site security & monitoring

    What We'll Discuss

This interactive panel will explore real-world safety and security challenges contractors are encountering on job sites, including:

    • Protecting employees working in and around active construction zones
    • Public and traffic safety around utility construction sites
    • Equipment and material theft prevention
    • Job site security during working and non-working hours
    • Managing interactions with unauthorized individuals
    • Technology and tools available to improve site security and visibility
    • Practical strategies contractors can implement to reduce risk
    • Lessons learned and best practices from the field

Rather than focusing on a single area of safety, this discussion will look at the job site as a whole and the steps contractors can take to better protect their employees, equipment, projects, and the surrounding community.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions and share challenges they are experiencing on their own projects.

Lunch will be provided. Pre-registration is required. Please note that a no-show fee will be charged to registered attendees who do not attend and do not cancel in advance.
