Trench Safety Stand Down Expo & Lunch
Join us for a lunch and learn that includes our member shoring companies, National Trench Safety, Sunbelt Rentals and United Rentals. Each company will be brining a piece of equipment to showcase and answer questions related to trench safety. June is Trench Safety Month and the third week of June has been proclaimed Trench Safety Week by Governor Polis. We will alsoc have speakers in a classroom setting indoors while we have lunch. 

This is a FREE to NUCA members event and benefit!

Topics to be discussed
Shielding
    • Maximum 12” gap outside the box
    • Access/egress
    • Pins/pin keepers installed
    • Shield shall extend 18” above soil when sloping down to a shield
Shoring
    • Aluminum hydraulic shores – minimum of two shores in hole and safe zone between shores
Sloping
    • Slope down to vertical only allowed in type A soils 
Other
      • Fall protection
      • Uptick in trench fatalities from 2021 to 2022
      • Civil penalties
      • Attitude toward shoring
      • using the right types of rigging equipment for lowering shoring into the trench. This can include different types of bridals, special adapters such as those for steel plates, spreaders for sheet piles, etc.  It would be also good to touch base on best practices when ordering rigging along with shoring.
      • How to set up equipment to do crossings
        • Setting up prevention for falling into the box/ shoring/ etc.
        • Accessories: that allow walking up/ down sloped walls, cross gaps from wall to box entrance, properly mount ladders of all types, anchors for fall arrest (or is this a different class/ topic/ event?)
