Course Objectives – Flagger students will learn the following:

• State law regarding flagger age, certification training, duties, requirements, and authority.
• Flagger qualifications per the MUTCD.
• Safety of the Flagger, public, and co-workers.
• Required safety apparel.

• Flagging devices and use.
• Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) (i.e., advance warning

 signs, channelizing devices, etc.)
• Where to stand and escape routes.
Flagging procedures, techniques, and hand signals.
• Flagging procedures for emergency vehicles.
• Nighttime flagging procedures and equipment.
• Communication with co-workers, other flagger/s, and public. • Written and hands-on practical exams

dditional Information: 

  • Training will meet the requirements of CDOT and the MUTCD Chapter 6.
  • Students will be required to speak English, pass a written exam with an 80% and a practical exam with a 100%.
  • The written exam is open book/open notes.
  • The students who pass both exams will receive a wallet card which is valid for two years.
  • The class is a mix of lecture, videos and slide deck presentation.
